Exhaust fume coming into my home?

0 votes
From Linda:

I was very happy to find this web site. Lots of good information…I have the feeling there is some sort of fume coming into my home, not sure if the fireplace chimney is in good shape, should the installers of my new water heater have checked the chimney liner venting etc. Thanks Linda

Hi Linda,
Your question is too… general. To answer it I’d need much more information. Water heater chimney and fireplace chimney locations / how far from each other, their height – which chimney is higher and how much higher, do you have damper in your fireplace – is it open or closed, what type of a WH you have – natural draft of power vent, is the furnace connected to the same chimney as the WH, where is that suspect “fume” detected – any particular area or everywhere…

In your case it might be easier to get the installer back and try to explain them your concerns. However, if you can describe everything in detail, I’ll try to figure out some possible scenarios.
