Type B direct vent pipe for gas water heater, is sole vertical route (through attic/roof) allowed?

Hi Steve,
By "sole vertical route" you mean that the only appliance connected to it is your water heater? Well, B-vent is required in attics and at the roof penetrations. Having only a water heater connected to this vertical stack doesn't really matter as long as the installation meets the code: properly calculated diameter, height, elbows, strapping, cap, flashing, etc.
