Can you please tell me if the latest code applies to existing wiring when there haven’t been any property renovations?

Hi Carolyn,
In general it doesn’t. However, some jurisdictions might require such upgrades due to accidents caused by hazardous wiring conditions (if accidents occurred in the past or if there are some known conditions that might result in an accident if not improved). Your best bet would be to consult this particular condition with a local building department.
