How to seal off unused fireplace chimney

Do I need to put vapor barrier at base of f-glas insulation stuffed in unused fireplace chimney?

Hi Gerry,

It wouldn’t hurt to do it, but I would recommend using aluminum or plastic foil for this purpose (instead of paper). As an alternative or additionally (assuming that there is a damper inside) you can seal all the gaps around it with aluminum HVAC tape or silicon / caulking (if they are small). Just make sure you clean the surface prior to application. If it’s just temporary, use less messy method: vapor barrier and / or tape.
